How would you complete the following unfinished quote from Steven Mithen’s book The Prehistory of the Mind?
“The two really dramatic transformations in human behaviour occurred…”
In Wednesday Roundup #92 Daniel linked to a review of Mithen’s The Singing Neanderthals (also reviewed here), and in Wednesday Roundup #91 Daniel linked to Mithen’s article The Music Instinct. In a post from a couple of years ago, I briefly touch upon Mithen’s concept of cognitive fluidity which is a concept also representative of Mithen’s aptitude to synthesize work from a variety of fields. Mithen’s books are handy references on a neuroanthropologist’s bookshelf with an assimilation of data from across the board. Apparently Mithen wrote some of The Prehistory of the Mind while he was in Satiago de Compostela in Spain (a location that is dear to my own heart after having walked 380km there along the French route in 2003). From this location, Mithen draws his inspiration on writing about the changing architecture of the mind throughout the ages. Now it is your turn to have some fun and decipher what dramatic transformations you believe have occurred in human behaviour.
