Vajrayana Buddhists tend to talk of "mind" rather than "the mind". "Mind" is considered to be like space. Space here haveing the sense of the potentiality that allows for phenonomen, rather than the emptiness between objects. So "mind" is the potentiality for consciousness, and in its pure form, for enlightenment.

"The mind" ususally refers to the relative and conditioned pheneonomen of the brain operating in the context of the body and its environment.

I think one way to undestand the Buddhist perspective is to see that when we confuse "The Mind" for "Mind" we cause all kinds of suffering.

Paul great job. If I had known you were going to do such a great post I would not have needed to take all those notes! I loved Dan Siegal's video you inserted. WoW I am keen to read more of his work, as a teacher I am keen to learn more about how to "Inspire to Rewire".

It was also great to meet you at the conference but I did forget to give you a piece of wisdom a friend gave me in my final few months of study in order to get me over the finish line. He said finishing your PHD is simple, all you need is 3 nails! Nail your books to the table, your chair to the ground, and your butt to the chair and just do it!

Thanks for the great post.

oOo good work - very thorough and interesting read.
it was nice to be able to get a sense of the topics of the day as well as the personas of the presenters

yes the psychopaths are very talented at perspective taking but lack empathy and guilt
i dont know how the suggested techniques would go down with them.
i like the idea of replacing a desire for control for desire of shared freedom :)

will yoga help keep my mind active?
love smiley benita

Paul,
You so succinctly express much of the shared and collective experiences and highlights during the conference. It is not only wonderful to meet you and share some Portuguese language with you, but also it is refreshing to meet such a motivated YOUNG individual who is as open and as inspiring as yourself.

As an educator, I reflect on how the conference is pertinent and meaningful to my teaching effective learning, and I realize after reading your post, that as you state: "Over the coming months, I will certainly be making more time in my day to generate more focus, compassion and concentration" this will be one of MY take away focal points to enhance my teaching. Muito Obrigada vibrant Paul!
