Wonderful observations presented here by Dr. Lende. A few points of interests; has any work been done within primates to study neurophysiological responses and addictions within primate culture? If so, how can such behavior be translated into the multiple variables that effect the human brain and process of addiction? I'd be interested to see if he has any findings within variable allostatic levels and their roles within addiction (increased/decreased cortisol levels)cross-culturally (specifically with his time spent in South America). Are there any variations between cultures that spark an increase/decrease in cortisol which can ignite addicition qualities?
